Diving holiday to the Daymaniyat islands in Oman
The country of Sindbad the Sailor is only a stone’s throw away from the Red Sea.
The Sultanate of Oman is situated on the Eastern side of the Arabian Peninsular and is bordered by The United Arab Emirates, Yemen and Saudi Arabia. The beautiful waters of the Gulf of Oman, The Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean combined with the unspoilt coast ensure that the diving is of the highest quality.
Diving tourism is relatively new and bearing in mind that Oman has 1,700 Kms. of coast line you do not have to be a rocket scientist to understand that there is an abundance of un-spoilt coral reefs and other sites waiting to be discovered.
Diving out from the Muscat Capital Area guarantees diving at drop offs with coral surrounded fjords with depths from 6 to 40 metres. The coral reefs are beautiful with an abundance of attractive soft coral. In addition to the diving you have a 70% chance of meeting dolphins on the boat trip to the dive sites, like, for example Fahal Island where there is a chance of meeting whales. After your diving you can relax on the beach or take advantage of other activities available. On your diving trip you will cross Omani fishermen who catch the big tuna fish with nylon hand-lines!!
Oman has one Marine Nature Reserve protected by The Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs. This is the Daymaniyat Islands situated about 40 minutes by boat from the nearest dive centre. The underwater life is the richest in Oman and the visibility here is usually better than at the dive sites closer to Muscat city. A visit to the waters around the islands is a MUST for all divers.
The visibility in the waters of Oman averages about 12 metres and the reputation of the dive sites here is growing as the international community of divers spreads the word. The visibility varies from day to day and from dive site to dive site. On good days you have up to 20 metres and even on the bad days you will still have 5 metres – more than enough given the variety of sea life. Plankton is the problem with the visibility but on the other hand it helps give the fantastic variety of flora and fauna and, of course, the chances of meeting with the friendly whale shark and leopard shark are much improved!!!
There is a large variety of soft and hard corals and schools of fish in every direction. Rays, turtles,s dolphins and moray eels of an extraordinary size are commonly seen and from time to time whale shark and leopard shark are to be found.
We have packages for diving the Daymaniyat Islands at 2 different places which are diving out from the Muscat Capital Area and diving out from Al Sawadi – some 120 Kms. up the coast to the north of Muscat City and close to the northern dive sites of the Daymaniyat Islands.
Your overnight stay will be in the *** Ramee Guestline Hotel situated in Qurm – part of Muscat Capital Area. You will be taken daily from the hotel to the dive centre some 10 Kms. away to the north. The Centre is ideally situated for diving at the Daymaniyat Islands being only 35 minutes from the southern Daymaniyat Islands.
If you wish to stay in a 4* or 5* Internationally known hotel we can also arrange this at a competitive price.
In Oman they know how to combine perfectly the Western influence with the traditional Arab culture. Oman has the reputation for being the most tolerant and safe country of the Middle East. It is a clean and environmentally friendly country. Unlike other major middle eastern diving destinations, when you are in the markets you are not bothered all the time by shop keepers and salesmen but are left to look at goods available and take your time. The people of Oman are friendly, helpful and hospitable a result of their seafaring background.
The Omanis have through the centuries been a trading nation with a good reputation and have had a strong influence down as far as Zanzibar where there is till a large Omani influence and respect for Omani culture.
All the frankincense and myrrh from ancient times have always come from The Sultanate of Oman.
When you visit the souk (market) in Muscat do not forget to take frankincense and myrrh to take home together with gold jewellery which is very attractively priced compared to Europe. This beautiful land of frankincense, myrrh and gold cannot fail to charm and enchant you.
Aside from the diving experiences Oman offers very attractive land excursions including deserts, wadis filled with lush vegetation and stunning mountain scenery including the Grand Canyon of Oman which should not be missed. Arrangements can be made to include land based excursions in your holiday package.
